Choose Your Schedule
Planbook can accommodate schedules where you teach the same thing each day, your classes change each day but repeat weekly and rotating schedules (up to a 14 day rotation).
Write your Lesson Plans
Planbook gives you 6 customizable fields to hold your lesson plans. You can show and hide the fields you want to use, and name them whatever you want.
Attach Files and Links
Planbook lets you attach any file on your computer directly to a lesson plan. You can also attach web links. Stop searching through folders or file cabinets and have the files you need right where you want them.
Print/Email your Plans
Planbook makes it easy to share your plans with your administrator, other teachers or students via print or emailed PDFs. You can choose a weeks' lesson plans, specify a range of dates, a unit or all your lessons that have been tagged with a keyword. You control what gets printed.
Adjust your Schedule
When the weather gets rough (or any of the 100s of things happen that can affect your best laid plans), Planbook lets you quickly bump or pull back lessons to adjust your plans. Planbook also lets you make non school days to reflect holidays, in-services, weather days - whatever comes your way.
Reuse your Plans
Next term, or next year, don't recreate all your hard work. You can export courses (or units) from your Planbook file and import them into a new one. If your classes stay the same, simply migrate the entire file to a new start date and have all your plans shift to the new term.
Share Plans on the Web
All Planbook licenses come with the free use of PlanbookConnect, a service I've created that syncs the plans you've entered and builds web pages for your students, parents or colleagues. Planbook can also publish HTML pages to a local folder or FTP server.
Convert Days
Even those in schools with the strictest schedules will sometimes need to adjust their schedule to accommodate changes. Planbook lets you convert one type of day to another (an A day to a B day) or even create (and reuse) custom schedules (such as an assembly schedule or half-day schedule).
Sync to iCal
With a few simple mouse clicks, you can have all your lesson plan information synced directly to iCal calendars of your choice. Then, you can access your plans anyplace you can see your iCal calendars.
Track Standards
Planbook lets you define (or import) your curriculum standards into your data file. You can then easily track which lessons covered which standard using a simple checkbox.
Companion iPad and Windows Apps
Documents that you create with Planbook for Mac can easily be opened using the companion iPad application (requires Dropbox for wireless document transfer). The iPad app lets you glance at your lesson plans during class, make edits and adjust your schedule. Planbook for Mac can also export document files compatible with Planbook for Windows 4.0. Now you can do some of your lesson planning on your Mac at home, transfer the document to your school's Windows computers and keep planning away.

Help! How do I install Planbook if I've already purchased it?
This answer to this question depends on whether you purchased Planbook directly from Hellmansoft (via eSellerate) or from the Mac App Store.
Mac App Store
If you purchased from the Mac App Store, you can always download a new copy of the program by:
- Open the Mac App Store on the computer you'd like to install Planbook
- Make sure you are logged into the Apple account you used to make the purchase. You can change accounts from the Store menu
- Go to the Purchased tab
- Install Planbook from that screen
If you don't see Planbook as a purchase, or you cannot use the Mac App Store on the computer you'd like to install on, please get in touch.
Direct from Hellmansoft
If you purchased from Hellmansoft directly, you can install a new copy of the program by:
- Download the trial version of Planbook.
- Move the downloaded application to your Applications folder
- Start the program
- Use the Planbook-->Activate Existing Serial Number menu item to enter the serial number that you received when purchasing Planbook
If you can't find your serial number, please contact support and include the name and email address use when making your purchase.
How do I decide where to purchase Planbook?
Copies of Planbook sold on the Mac App Store and Hellmansoft.com both let you use Planbook, but there are a few factors to consider when deciding where to make your purchase.
- Purchases in the Mac App Store don't require entering a serial number. To use Planbook on an additional computer requires opening the Mac App Store application on that computer, logging into your Apple iTunes Account and downloading a copy onto that computer. If one of the computers you use doesn't support the Mac App Store, you'll need to contact support to get a serial number for that computer.
- Licenses sold at hellmansoft.com cover both the Mac and Windows versions of Planbook. You can use the serial number you receive when purchasing to get a copy of the program running on a computer running Windows. If you purchase from the Mac App Store, you'll need to contact support and provide your receipt in order to get a serial number that licenses the Windows version.
- Updates to the software are always free, regardless of where you purchase. But, Apple's review process can make it take more time (up to a month) to receive updates that are issued. That said, updating apps purchased in the Mac App Store is easier with updates presenting themselves automatically.
